Hugging Captian Octonauts Sea Life

Sound the Octo-Alert!

Come see the Octonauts at SEA LIFE Aquarium Charlotte-Concord September 6th-28th.

If you watch Disney Junior at all in your house, then I’m sure you have heard of the Octonauts. If you haven’t, your kids have. The Octonauts are definitely a favorite in our house. Captain Barnacles is a pretty cuddly looking polar bear, and can you get over just how adorably cute Peso the penguin is? During pretend play at our house, the kids become different characters. My oldest daughter is usually Dashi, my oldest son is always Captian, and the two year old is usually Kwazii but sometimes Shellington. They call their baby sister Tunip {you have to watch the show}.

I won’t even go into all the Octonaut toys we have around our playroom. Let’s just say that our oldest son has requested an Octonauts birthday party. That’s his thing right now. He even sleeps with the little plastic figures and carries them around everywhere.

Needless to say, we were all super excited to hear that the Octonauts were going to be docking at the Charlotte-Concord Sea Life Aquarium. We love Sea Life Aquarium. We love Octonauts. We were all thrilled to be able to do both together!

SEA LIFE Aquarium

SEA LIFE’s conservation message is “Breed, Rescue, Protect”. They are doing just that. SEA LIFE runs a global breeding program for 13 endangered species of rays and the largest seahorse breeding program in the world. They rescue hundreds of sea turtles and seals, rehabilitate them with the goal of returning them back to their natural habitat. SEA LIFE also organizes beach clean ups and campaigns for protected marine areas around the world. There are even new projects developed locally.

SEA LIFE Charlotte-Concord features:

  • over 5,000 creatures, which include sharks, seahorses, octopus, jellyfish, rays, and eels
  • You will walk through 150,000 gallons of water {okay, not physically. You won’t get wet, but you’ll pass by it}
  • you will travel from the rivers of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, and beyond.
  • a 12 feet deep ocean tank
  • 180 degree acrylic underwater viewing tunnel {I could stand there all day. It is SO amazing.}
  • an interactive touchpool {my kids LOVE this part}
  • educational talks and feedings throughout the day
  • a behind the scenes tour that just opened
  • kids’ quiz and activity trail to keep the littles engaged
  • a play area for the kids that includes a playscape and tables to color pictures
  • a presentation video theatre
  • and a retail store so you can buy Octonaut toys {that is as exciting as seeing the shark for my son}

Octonauts

Octonauts on Disney Junior are based off the original books by Meomi. They are a crew of 8 sea loving characters who work together in the Octopod to explore the depths of the oceans, rescue those who need their help, and protect the ocean. Preschoolers come away from a show with a knowledge of sea creatures they didn’t have before and a sense of teamwork as the characters work together to get the job done.

I will never forget being at the Aquarium and my oldest saw a crab like animal with really long legs. She immediately said, “Look, Mommy, it’s a Spider Crab.” I asked her how she knew what it was and she said she learned it on Octonauts. The same thing happened with a narwhal. It’s not just a cartoon. Octonauts is a learning tool.

  1. I’m afraid I completely missed the Octonauts thing with my kids…
    I did however make through all the Wiggles episodes (:0)…
    Fruit Salad… Yummy Yummy… ? Oh never mind.

    Dying to go see the new aquarium though!!

    1. Wiggles are still going strong too with my two year old. He breaks out in “Hot Potato” quite regularly.

      It’s great having an attraction like this so close!

  2. My youngest LOVES the Octonauts. And thanks so much Carissa and Whitney! I now have an alternating chorus of Hot Potato and Fruit Salad going through my head. It’s making me hungry. 😉

    1. Haha! I’ve been singing Hot Potato since I typed that too!! I’m starving. Is it lunchtime yet?
