Two years ago, I knew nothing about essential oils. I’d never heard of Young Living. We had bought what I thought were essential oils when I was growing up, but those we added to a ring that was placed on a lightbulb. They did make the house smell good. I started hearing more about essential oils when I was pregnant with my daughter in 2008. I decided to buy some lavender essential oil while I was at the health food store to use to help keep me calm during labor. I didn’t really think it worked, so the bottle stayed in the closet for awhile. I recently found it again and took a whiff, wondering how it compares to my Young Living Lavender. It didn’t smell like lavender. It smelled like oil – like an almond oil or some other carrier oil. The bottle says 100% pure essential oil. It may be 100% oil, but not lavender essential oil. No wonder it didn’t work! I am SO glad I found Young Living. They are involved in the process from seed, to farm, distilling, and sealing the essential oil in the bottles I use. Not every company can say that!
Using Essential Oils
When I first started using essential oils, I had no idea there were so many uses! While we mainly apply them topically to prevent illness or when we’re sick, you can do so much more with them. Diffusing essential oils in the air, like Young Living Thieves essential oil, helps clean the air of the yucky germs floating around your home. You can also add them to glass bottles with distilled water and clean with them.
Young Living has a great Thieves Cleaning Line. We regularly use the Foaming Hand Soap and the Thieves Household Cleaner. I LOVE the smell. It’s so much better than the chemical smells of other cleaners. And I don’t have to worry about the kids being around while I’m cleaning. Most of the time they even help!
Cleaning with Essential Oils
There are several essential oils that are great for cleaning. The most popular essential oils are: lavender essential oil, lemon essential oil, pine essential oil, cinnamon essential oil, Thieves essential oil blend, and Purification essential oil blend.
To freshen the air in your home naturally and without the use of chemical-laden aerosol sprays, simply diffuse Thieves essential oil blend, or Purification essential oil blend. Fill your diffuser with distilled water and add 10-20 drops of the oil of your choice.

Permanent Marker Removal
- lemon essential oil
- damp sponge
My son drew his Daddy a beautiful picture on his desk with 3 permanent markers. I tried a Magic Eraser, soap and water with some elbow grease, and nothing worked. As my last resort, I remembered getting permanent marker off my daughter’s face once with lemon essential oil, so I figured it was worth a shot. Ta-da! It worked!! Not even the faintest mark was left. It was amazing!
