For years, I have dreamed of taking our kids to Disneyland Resort in California. I remember going as a child during one of the promotional Summers when they gave away free tickets and vacations. I walked through the turnstiles and won a free child’s ticket!

Being a family of six, I understand that a trip to Disneyland can be an expensive one. The key to saving money on your Disneyland vacation is to know a few tips and tricks BEFORE you travel.

By planning ahead, and you can certainly make your Disneyland trip a less expensive one. Look below at 7 ways to save money at Disneyland, and see how easy it can be to enjoy Disneyland while spending less.

How to Save Money on Your Disneyland Vacation

1. Get a Chase Rewards Credit Card.

I know. But hear me out. It is possible to use credit cards wisely. If it will be a temptation, DON’T DO IT. But if you can use it and pay it off, then go for it!
When you use a Disney Chase Rewards credit card, you can earn points redeemable for Disney trips and products. 6 Months (or more) before your trip, use the rewards card to pay for major purchases than pay off quickly with cash. This is an easy way to earn Disney gift cards and save money on your Disneyland Resort vacation.

2. Buying and using gift cards to save money.

This is my favorite way you can save money on your Disneyland vacation! Stores such as Costco offer Disney gift cards for about 5% less than face value. Every single bit helps. You can then use these reduced gift cards to purchase your Disneyland tickets, meals, souvenirs, and more.

You can also buy Disney Gift Cards at Target using your RED card. By using your RED card, you’ll save 5% on your purchase.

Don’t forget about Swagbucks! Sign up for a Swagbucks account and use it as your search engine. You’ll earn Swagbucks and be able to purchase gift cards to places such as Walmart and Target. You can then use those gift cards to purchase Disney Gift Cards to help you stay within your budget and save on your Disneyland Resort vacation.

3. Check out the convention center schedule.

Disneyland Resort is the home of one of California’s biggest convention centers. Because of this, traffic tends to fluctuate when larger conferences are being held.

Be sure to get a copy of the convention center schedule so you can avoid going when crowds are large and ticket prices are inflated. You can also check out the site 10times.com to see what’s coming up in that area.

When we went in June, I wish I had checked out conferences in the area. VidCon was going on at the same time. Had I gone, part of the trip might have been a tax write-off, I would have learned more about how to create videos, and there were probably discounted tickets!

4. Plan on multiple-day tickets.

You will save money on tickets when you buy multiple-day passes instead of a single day. If you know you will be in the California area for a week or so, a multiple-day pass not only gives you flexibility but saves you money on your Disneyland Resort vacation.

To save even more cash, buy your tickets from a reputable Disneyland vacation planner like Getaway Today. They are great to work with and will plan your whole vacation for you! Don’t forget to tell them Simplifying Family sent you for the best rates.

5. Curb your souvenir spending with these tricks.

There are many ways to save cash on souvenirs. You can use the discounted gift cards mentioned above. You can also pack your own princess costume to avoid buying one.

Consider buying souvenir t-shirts for park day as well as autograph books on Amazon prior to your trip. They will cost less than if you buy them at the park.

6. Hydrate for free.

Disneyland allows you to bring in your own water bottles and drink mix packets. Fill your water bottles with tap water for free, or ask for free ice (affiliate link) water at any food vending cart. There is no point in paying to hydrate when you can do so for free.

Should you need snacks to get you through the day, Disneyland allows these too. Just toss some high protein snacks in your bag and you will be good to go.

7. Choose your hotel wisely.

Disneyland has many on-site properties that are gorgeous and cozy, but they aren’t in every budget. There are plenty of great Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotels that are within walking distance!

I highly recommend the newly renovated HoJo Anaheim. The rooms are spacious and they have suites for families of six, like ours! Plus they have a water park and it’s within walking distance of Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure.
