Dairy Free

I have never been a big dairy person.

Although cheese is my weakness. Yum!

Dairy and gluten have always messed with my body. I’m talking about years. Somehow, I lived with the symptoms thinking they were normal. Something that I had to live with. Thankfully, I was wrong.

Knowing that my body reacted adversely to dairy and gluten, when it was time to introduce solid food to my children, I stayed away from gluten and dairy. People just thought I was crazy for not giving them bread and food with gluten. When they found out I didn’t give my children dairy, I heard over and over how much they needed calcium and how I would stunt their growth. When in actuality, I could do much more harm to their gut by giving them dairy. But that’s a whole other post.

Sometimes You Just Need Milk

We tried several different varieties of dairy free milks to use in cooking, for smoothies, and in cereals. Either they were too thin, they tasted funny, or they contained carrageenan {a food additive that can cause cancer}. What’s a mom to do?

I kept looking.

Thankfully, I came across Silk Almond Milk. Finally, a dairy alternative that tasted great and worked well for cooking. When I saw they came out with Silk Protein + Fiber, I knew we had to try it!

Silk Protein + Fiber

Protein would help our bodies feel full longer, which is important with four children. These kids can eat! I don’t know what we’re going to do when they are teenagers. Fiber helps clean our bodies out. This is super important to me because there is a history of colon cancer in my family.

We all make choices that will affect our future. Part of my job as a mommy is to make sure my children eat healthy right from the start. Just because cancer and digestive issues have been a part of our family doesn’t mean it has to be part of their future.

As for calcium? Silk Almondmilk Protein + Fiber has almost 50% more calcium than dairy milk. No worries there. It’s free of casein, eggs, soy, dairy, lactose, MSG, and carrageenan. It’s also enrolled in the Non-GMO Project’s product verification program. This is so important to our family more now than ever. The more I research GMO’s and what they are doing to our bodies, the more I avoid them.

If you ever find yourself going dairy free and in search of a good dairy free milk alternative, try Silk Almondmilk Protein + Fiber. Better yet, stop by and have a glass with this guy. Head over to Facebook to get your coupon.
